The All New
AMD K6 Processor
RPM Commune
Home RPMs
This page is a home for the k6.rpm and now athlon.rpm files I have compiled. I started this by deciding that I wanted rpms compiled for my k6-II. If you have an AMD processor of any type then you know how rare these rpms really are. With this in mind I also decided to share them. I hope you like them.
All these packages are released "as is" with no warranty of any kind. I can't even guarantee that they will work for you. I can only assure you that the ones I have installed work for me.
I received a question in an email asking what makes these rpms different than a regular i386.rpm. Well, the answer is quite simply that when these are compiled by gcc, the -march flag is set to "k6." So they are optimized for the k6 architechture as far as gcc is able. In the case of XMMS the 3d-now! feature is also active.

Well, there it is. The rpms seem all in order. Now to get the SPECs up and write that howto. This is probably the only place you can find this many amd rpms so . . . live it up! I'd list my new ones but they're almost all new. Both XMMS sets are also configured to use 3d-now! when writing to disk.

My word! That was faster than I expected, but I'm NOT done yet. You've undoubtedly noticed some of the changes. There's still a lot of files to upload (like most of the k6 rpms) but it's WAY past bed time for me. I'll get the k6 rpms up tomorrow and hopefully the spec files as well. Everything is quite nicely laid out for you on one page so you can see where to go for binary or source, project pages or spec files. I've even put up some MD5 sums - if you trust me. ;-) Of course the biggest change is the addition of Athlon rpms. My heart is still with my K6 but I thought I'd branch out a little in the AMD world. Heh, just wait for hammer rpms!

Nothing new . . . yet. BUT! New stuff is coming. Amazing new stuff. Stuff that'll probably more than double the popularity of this site! But I'm not saying what just yet. Because it might take me longer than I expect and I don't want people anxiously waiting for what I promise, disappointed when it doesn't show up for a long time. This is mainly a heads up that I am not forgetting this site nor purposefully neglecting it. Keep looking, I've got LOTS of stuff compiling and I WILL get to work on that long promised "HOWTO" any day now. It's really very simple, it's just a matter of writing down intelligibly.

In what is probably one of the speedier updates to date. I have XFce 3.8.16 for your desktop environ pleasure. Another fine release from Olivier and Co. Actually I don't know all the new stuff, but Xfce is just one of those things that gets better and better.

I couldn't wait for new release, so here's a CVS snapshot of Dillo. The TINY speedy web browser now does cookies. Any page that like to remember who you are (LinuxToday, Slashdot, Web based emails etc.) now can! It still doesn't display frames BUT it gives you a choice s to which frame to display so that's not all bad. You must edit the ~/.dillo/cookiesrc file to ACCEPT cookies.

As you can see from the list above, I wasn't kidding. Fact is, I'm still not finished. I have a few more updates to upload, but they'll have to wait a day or two. I am very impressed with the way Galeon/Mozilla are shaping up. In the near future, I'm going to update, tidy up and combine the links/sources page and get the k6 rpm building instructions up. Well, enjoy! and Good Night!

News Flash - update Mar 19, 2002

OK OK OK, so there's nothing new YET! But I have a BUNCH of new RPMs ready to upload. I mean a BUNCH! Mozilla 0.9.9 is coming and it's been optimized like never before. New Galeon is coming. GAIM, GRIP, CUPS. I can't remember everything. So why am I just telling you all this and not uploading already? Because I just have a POTS 56k connection and it's Sourceforge, which means I can't just upload. I just don't have the time tonight, but it's been so long since there have been any updates, I wanted to say something.
Also. This will be of some excitement to many of you who have written me about this. I am ready to write up quick and easy instructions to build your own K6 rpms. I would have done this sooner, but I wanted to make sure I was following the best possible habits myself. I think I've done that. I'm no longer building RPMs as root, so now I can tell you how to do what I do. I'll be back soon.

BIG BIG Browser day. I've updated Mozilla, Galeon, Dillo and added Plugger. Bad news is Plugger wouldn't compile when I tried to optimize it for K6, so it's here more as a service than anything else. For those who don't know, Plugger takes various media playing or displaying applications and allows then to play or display various embeded things on webpages. It's sort of an all in one pluggin. I'll have a new GAIM up very soon.

XFce is updated. Don't forget these have the Xft enabled, even if its not labeled as such. Also concerning GLiv. . . It no longer requires Imlib and it never needed edb. Sorry.

News Flash - update Jan 19, 2002

Well, that went well. My new RPMs are up. This means that the BIG job I had of getting this site back up to date is over. Now I can up date the packages as the projects get updated. Whew!

News Flash - update Jan 17, 2002

I've got LOTS of new rpms coming when I find the time to upload them. Perhaps this weekend. I've got new and updated rpms of Nano, GKrellM, Sylpheed, Galeon, Mozilla, Gaim, Gftp, Mesa, XMMS, GLiv, Grip, Ogg Vorbis and friends, and I guess that's about it. NO I haven't forgotten you or this site. My life though, sheesh! I really need broadband! Come back soon to see if my new rpms are up.

News Flash - update Dec 21, 2001

I've updated the Ogg Vorbis packages. It's the same release, but the second generation rpm. Also, I have k6 rpms of the libao packages. I was able to build them because I installed KDE when I installed RedHat 7.2. I don't use KDE, but I like some of the apps, and having the libs does make building KDE related projects easier. I've also finally unloaded the 0.9.6 release of Mozilla, and XMMS-1.2.6pre1. Once again this is build with 3D-NOW! enabled. Enjoy!

News Flash - update Dec 13, 2001

OK, so nobody saw the last news flash before this one. The fact is I finally have the new infrastructure in place for the site. The RPMs are slowly but surely being replaced and I'm ironing out little flukes in the site as I find them. Please be patient. OH! One thing, XFree86 is coming down. It was too big and I'd rather focus on many small fun projects than take up my space with one monster project. I may make it available on CD once I fix (replace) my CD-RW.

News Flash - update Dec 03, 2001

At long last the website update is up! I think the words look a little sleeker, but that's just the minor change. Now, you'll notice some of the RPMs are gone. Actually at first they'll mostly be gone as I update the rpms themselves. Reason being, I'm getting better at this. ;-) I've decided to stop maintaining them on this site. I may in the future however make a CD-Rom available for a small fee plus shipping. Naturally I wouldn't sell the software (It's FREE!), but CDs and shipping do cost money and my time is valuable too (at least to me). Anyway, getting back to the rpms themselves. They are now all versions that have beem compiled on RedHat 7.2. I have also taken special care to make sure that they are indeed optimized for the K6 architecture. Some of the packages in the past had slipped by without optimization. You'll also notice a new site where I post my SPEC files. This is especially important with Galeon 1.0. If you download their SRPM it doesn't build. I needed to make a small correction and here it is. Well, not that the long wait is over, I have every intention to keep this site up to date as I had in the past. Thanks! And Enjoy!
